5 Print Trends That Are Dominating Summer Fashion

print trends

Let’s face it, you are either a print person or you’re not. I usually fall into the latter, however, if there is one time of year that I broaden my fashion horizons and step away from minimalism, it is summer. It is the perfect time of year to be adventurous with your style and embrace brighter colours and crazier prints.

That being said when it comes to prints, and especially those that are clearly a fleeting trend; only embrace the ones you identify with. If you don’t like a particular print don’t buy into it just because it is ‘trendy’. As chances are you’ll no longer want to wear it a year from now.

For those of you who are print-obsessed or simply just excited about the upcoming season, here are the print trends set to dominate in summer 2023.

Polka Dots

This retro-inspired print made its comeback at several SS23 shows including Saint Laurent, Richard Quinn and Chanel. It was featured predominantly in a classic black-and-white colour palette. Making this print more grown-up and wearable.

Multi-Coloured Stripes

Stripes have long been a beloved print in the fashion industry, but now they are a lot more colourful. Moschino, Marques Almeida and Zimmermann are just some of the brands showcasing bold and colourful stripes on the SS23 runways.

Pinstripes

If multi-coloured stripes are still too daring for you then pinstripes are the way to go! Pinstripes have always been a work-friendly staple; on blazers, suits and skirts. But now, this classic print is spicing it up on everything from corsets to mini dresses. Perhaps not HR approved but definitely runway approved!

Renaissance

It’s giving Ariana Grande at the 2018 Met Gala and I am so here for it! Possibly my favourite of all the print trends this season and surprisingly quite wearable! The Renaissance period began in Europe in the 14th century, an era that brought a “rebirth” of interest in the arts. This led to the creation of many iconic paintings such as Sandro Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus. The paintings of this era still inspire many creatives today. Something that was very much apparent on the SS23 runways, especially Olivier Rousteing’s collection for Balmain.

Florals

Ok, so this is a predictable one, but we cannot escape the presence of florals. They were quite literally everywhere. They were characteristically romantic at Giambattista Valli and Carolina Herrera, but given an artistic update at Van Noten.
