couture trends

Designers took to Paris last week to showcase their latest haute couture collections for autumn winter 2023-2024. Whilst couture collections are aimed towards high-profile clientele, who are after one-of-a-kind, expensive pieces. The rest of us can still take inspiration from these collections to make them more practical for everyday wear. Here is a round-up of some of the more notable trends to come from the couture runways…

Smell the roses

Perhaps florals for spring are not so groundbreaking, but for fall 2023, flowers have taken on a life of their own. Floral motifs were splashed across elegant gowns at Armani Privé, Chanel, and Giambattista Valli. Infact Armani’s entire collection was based around the rose – a symbol of sophistication. One of Valentino’s most notable looks featured a headpiece constructed entirely of a gigantic rose framing a model’s head.

Metallic Armour

Metallic is a trend we are seeing time and time again each fashion week season. The couture designers however have taken this trend one step further by designing clothing that aims to serve as armour. Balenciaga’s Joan Of Arc-inspired look is a clear example of this. Jean Paul Gaultier also showed liquid-mesh chainmail gowns.

Paint Me!

It is a known fact that many couture looks can be interpreted more as art than fashion. Many designers took this literally this season by transforming their models into walking canvases. Schiaparelli covered models in electric blue spray paint, acting as a top itself. The outcome created a stunning effect, one I am sure we will see replicated on red carpets.
