9 Autumn Winter Trends To Know For 2023

autumn trends 2023

Autumn fashion trends are back in a major way for 2023. Whilst you may be dreading the end of summer, it has come to that time of year again when we inevitably switch our summer pieces in favour of thicker fabrics we can layer up.

If you’re looking for the latest trends to provide some wardrobe inspiration then the autumn/ winter catwalks were, like always, full of ideas. From what colours to wear to key pieces you should invest in, if you are in the market for a wardrobe update or you simply want to try something new, here are the best trends to know about come autumn…

Draping

One of the easiest ways to elevate any look and add texture to an outfit is draping. This season, the good news is you can go as refined or as dramatic with this as you like. Take inspiration from Di Petsa and Roksanda for a more theatrical approach. Or look to Fendi and Loewe if subtly is your friend.

Off-the-shoulder

If the runways of Balmain, Tory Burch, Carolina Herrera, and Zimmermann are anything to go by, we will be seeing plenty of off-the-shoulder ensembles this autumn. This romantic neckline is somewhat of a daring choice for the colder months, but it will be cropping up on everything from knitwear to floor-length gowns.

Cherry Red

Red is the colour of the season thanks to a plethora of designers showcasing the fiery hue as part of their autumn/ winter collection. Bottega Venetta, David Koma, Stella McCartney, Dolce & Gabbana, and Valentino, the list goes on for designers spreading the love. Is cherry red going to replace Barbie pink as the new it-colour?

Butter yellow

Another major colour for autumn/ winter? Butter yellow. If a neutral colour palette is your thing, then this one is for you. Showing up in the collections of Connor Ives, Prada, and TOVE – this hue will make a welcome addition to our wardrobes.

Shearling

Shearling coats are back and in a big way this season. As someone who has had a shearling coat for the past 7 years that she wears religiously each winter – trust me this is one trend you should invest in. Alberta Ferretti, Brandon Maxwell, Chloé, and Coach are just some of the designers to put their spin on this classic outerwear this season.

Back to basics

Perhaps it’s down to the rise in popularity of quiet luxury but it appears we are going back to basics this autumn. White button-down shirts, oversized blazers, and wide-leg jeans are the basis to a capsule wardrobe and the collections of Gucci, Gauchere, and Miu Miu.

Corporate-core

Goodbye mermaidcore, hello corporate-core! There’s a shift in our wardrobes this season, from channeling The Little Mermaid to Succession as we embrace our inner Shiv Roy. Think power suits, pencil skirts, waistcoats, blazers, and ties. Strong shoulders are a key silhouette for this trend as seen at GCDS, Thom Browne, and Saint Laurent. Dress for the job you want after all.

The BBC

Otherwise known as the big black coat, if you choose wisely this will be another piece you’ll be wearing for years to come. A big black coat, like those seen at Victoria Beckham and Givenchy, always look effortless and is an easy-to-throw-on piece that will never go out of style.

Blanket Scarves

A tempting choice for those of us who are used to freezing winters. Chunky, blanket scarves are thankfully a must-have and practical accessory for autumn/winter. Ideally the chunkier the better. Choose a simple design a la Michael Kors or opt for a classic print like Saint Laurent and Burberry.
