Summer fashion trends have a habit of coming and going, but I have a feeling these will be here to stay!
Summer is one of the most exciting seasons for fashion. After all, there’s nothing like a bit of sunshine to boost your creativity and spark a desire to have fun with your clothes. Whether you decide to step out of your comfort zone with a bold colour choice or try out a new silhouette – this is the time to experiment.
From polo shirts to low-rise pants, here are seven of the hottest summer fashion trends…
Metallics
At this point, metallic pieces are not so much a trend as a summer staple. Once reserved for the winter months and party season, sequins, lame, and metallic finishes have once again been seen across the spring summer collections. Throw in a few 90s supermodels and this trend is bound to stand out as must-wear this season. At Ralph Lauren, Christy Turlington looked stunning in a liquid gold gown, whilst Claudia Schiffer wore checkerboard chainmail at Versace.

Lets play polo
Perhaps you don’t want to actually play polo, you just want to look like you do. If this is something you can relate to, or if you’re simply a fan of the preppy aesthetic then you’re in luck. This summer polo shirts are back offering the perfect mix of smart and casual. Styling with shorts seems like the way to go if Gucci, Miu Miu and GCDS are anything to go by.

Be transparent!
Transparency is key after all. Lingerie-inspired pieces have long been part of our summer wardrobes. This season, it’s sheer fabrics that are taking center stage. Transparent skirts in particular are where it’s at. Seen on SS24 runways from Acne Studios and Alaïa to Chanel and Coperni. Style with a simple tee or crew neck jumper to offset the nakedness.

Short shorts
The no-pants trend may now be considered too daring, but that doesn’t mean that our hemlines are getting any longer. SS24 is the season of the micro short. This style was pumped down the catwalks in Milan and Paris – at shows including Gucci, Alexander McQueen, Max Mara, and Isabel Marant.

Sorbet Shades
What is more summerier than shades of sorbet? Carolina Herrera, Bora Aksu, Emporio Armani, and Fendi all showcased pastel hues of pinks, blues, lilacs, and lemons for spring summer 2024. It may be a soft colour palette, but it will be sure to turn heads.

Utility
One of the biggest summer fashion trends for 2024 is utility style. Yes, cargo trousers, oversized boiler suits, and relaxed utility jackets are going to be big this summer. Just ask Diesel, JW Anderson, and Elie Saab if you don’t believe me. Keep it classic with neutral shades, or wear two trends in one by mixing utility with sorbet shades or a metallic finish.

90s Low Rise
Sorry to all you low-rise haters out there, but this trend is back for another season. Many designers showed the midriff-exposing style, and it’s not just jeans that are bringing back this 90s trend – but skirts and trousers too. If you’re still unsure on how to style, there is plenty of inspiration on the runways. Just look to Acne Studios, Burberry, and Michael Kors.
