Another key point to note is Copenhagen Fashion Week’s sustainability agenda. This agenda has a minimum of 18 requirements brands must meet in order to show. Brands from Ganni to Stine Goya are placing a focus on responsible design practices and committing to slow fashion. Having these brands on your radar is increasingly important as we aim to shop in a more environmentally conscious way.

Paolina Russo

Paolina Russo

London-based Paolina Russo is a knitwear designer founded in 2021 by Paolina Russo and Lucile Guilmard. The designers merge artisanal methods and industrial practices to connect heritage craftsmanship and modern technology. The result is futuristic knits inspired by Paolina’s childhood bedroom. Not only has Paolina Russo won the first Zalando Visionary Award for this year’s CPHFW, but the brand is also a finalist of the LVMH Prize 2023, as well as of the International Woolmark Prize 2023.

Baum und Pferdgarten

Bold and playful, Baum und Pferdgarten always make a statement with their memorable prints and impressive fabrics. Creative Directors, Helle Hestehave and Rikke Baumgarten create designs for women to have fun and to help them tell their own stories. Standout pieces from the brand’s AW23 runway include a white button-down and pleated skirt co-ord, decorated with the face of Gwyneth Paltrow as Margot Tenenbaum from Wes Anderson’s The Royal Tenenbaum. Plus, plenty of sheer fabrics, animal prints, and tracksuits.

Stine Goya

Stine Goya proves that Scandinavian designs no longer have to be synonymous with minimalism. The brand was founded in 2006 and strives to embolden the community with the joy of wearing colour. In the 17 years since the brand’s inception, it has gained a legion of celebrity fans. With everyone from Michelle Obama to Hailey Bieber wearing the contemporary designs.

Latimmier

Helsinki-based ready-to-wear label, Latimmier, was launched in January 2022 at Pitti Uomo 101 by founder and creative director Ervin Latimer. Latimer’s vision is to expand the notion of masculinity through design and creativity and to help redefine how we approach gender. His last collection for AW23 juxtaposed classic menswear with a hint of kink – as an example, an oversized shirt accessorised with a cock-ring tie and leather garters. Latimmier faultlessly nails the art of adding humour to fashion whilst still conveying an important message.

Lovechild 1979

Lovechild 1979 perfectly encapsulates the quiet luxury aesthetic we are seeing so much of right now. Creative director Mia Kappelgaard and her all-women design team create long-lasting pieces that pay homage to the tailored and feminine Scandinavian silhouette. Think silky shirts, floral dresses, and knee-length skirts.

Ganni

Of course, this list would not be complete without celebrity-favourite, Ganni. Owned by husband-and-wife Ditte Reffstrup and Nicolaj Reffstrup, Ganni is quintessential Scandi style – effortlessly chic and wearable. The brand’s dedication to sustainability is one to be celebrated, despite not identifying itself as a “sustainable brand.” Instead, Ganni focuses’ on being responsible and transparent in their practices. For their latest collection, 92% of the production volume comes from responsible styles. This means at least 50% of the composition is recycled, low-impact, or organic.
