The Helmut Lang Fall/Winter 2024 collection, by Peter Do is the designers second runway show for the brand. The collection presents the theme of protection and projection – one of the foremost themes of life in New York which follows the brands ethos to “dress New York.”
This fall collection is composed of 50 looks. A collection of hyper-adaptable clothes, shoes, and bags that offer mega-protection whilst simultaneously projecting individual identity. The pieces are grounded in functionality, creating endless combinations for New Yorkers.
A collection highlight was undoubtedly the newly-developed fabric of silk bubble wrap that was used to make bulletproof vests, bomber jackets, and pants. Casual, hybrid suiting was also featured in the collection – a conscious design with suit wool in the front and ponte jersey in the back.
The idea of the expandable suitcase is applied to wool cashmere sweaters, hoodies, and pants through a system of zippers that allows the garment to transform. It allows the wearer to “adjust the level of drama that is needed.” The structured apex details contour the body to offer a range of silhouettes. The versatility of the garments is further shown in silk blouses that transform into scarves.
The iconic red-white-blue bag prints from Hong Kong are mismatched and splashed across denim, woven leather pants, suiting, skirts, and shirts, in a variety of materials from jacquard knits to handwoven leather, printed silk, and distressed denim.
Oversized double-face wool coats and shiny nylon padded puffers offer mega-protection whilst viscose hole-punch dresses and suiting were inspired by perforated construction tarps.
Accessories are also designed for everyday wear. From mini bags and waterproof hoods to belts and neck pillows.
