On Monday night, Maria Grazia Chiuri transported guests to a fairytale of Scotch romanticism for the latest Dior cruise 2025 collection.
The show marks almost 70 years since the brand presented in Scotland, renewing a long-standing connection first formed by Christian Dior himself in the 1950s. In 1955, Monsieur Dior presented his work in Perthshire, Scotland, in the ballroom of the Gleneagles Hotel. Today, the country has become the narrative framework of the Dior cruise 2025 collection.
The setting
The collection was unveiled at Drummond Castle in Scotland with the catwalk set amongst the picturesque landscapes of its garden. The models descended the stone steps before walking through the maze of Drummond’s grounds. The castle is iconically Scottish, with French and Italian renaissance influences, serving as a perfect setting for the looks dreamed up by Maria Grazia Chiuri, spotlighting the rich diversity of its textile history and artisanal traditions.
The collection
Throughout the collection, the unicorn and the thistle, both symbols of Scotland, provide a new vision of the Millefleurs motif. The motif is transposed into heraldic embroidery that recalls that technique and is part of Mary Stuart’s style which emerges in Clare Hunter’s biography: Embroidering Her Truth: Mary, Queen of Scots and the Language of Power.
Tartan, which had a major presence in the Dior cruise 2025 collection, was utilized with its historical significance in mind. Dresses were conceived in diverse lengths as well as coats and capes with large hoods.
Certain silhouettes feature exaggeratedly wide sleeves which, on white shirts, appear under little dresses with gathered skirts and bustiers resplendent with embroidery.
There was a clear theme of punk throughout the collection, which was juxtaposed nicely against the fairtytale backdrop of the castle. This is seen with knee-high leather boots and argyle socks, chainmail bibs and fitted hoods.
The collaboration
For this collection, Chiuri debuted a new collaboration with Le Kilt, the British label founded by Samantha McCoach and her Italian grandmother in 2014. The collaboration supports and furthers Chiuri’s artistic dialogue with a new generation of talent. Le Kilt is a family-owned company that offers an elevated take on modern classics, and timeless pieces that are conceived to be worn and passed on for generations. Le Kilt aims to introduce traditional craftsmanship to a modern audience and believes in reducing wastage and encouraging customers to adopt a personal connection to their purchase.
The FROW
As always, Hollywood turned out in force for Dior. FROW guests include Jennifer Lawrence, Anya Taylor-Joy, Rosamund Pike, Lily Collins, Minnie Driver, Han Sohee, Shay Mitchell, Annabelle Wallis, Maisie Williams, Geri Halliwell, and Emma Raducanu. Monochrome seemed to be the unofficial dress code with many of the stars opting for black looks. There was also plenty of leopard print with Lawrence and Williams wearing designs from Dior’s fall-winter 2024 collection.
