Highlights from London Fashion Week Spring/ Summer 2024

London Fashion Week is over for another season and once again the city has proved to be leading the pack when it comes to innovation. With a jam-packed schedule that included shows from Burberry, Richard Quinn, JW Anderson, Mowalola, and MAINS, the LFW runways showcased a plethora of talent and design originality.

Here I have rounded up some of my favourite shows from London Fashion Week SS24…

EDWARD CRUTCHLEY

The stunning monochromatic collection by Edward Crutchley for SS24 took inspiration from several different references. Amongst them; harlequins, football manager coats, medieval playground fights, nineties school sports kits, and hardcore futurism. Most interestingly, as mentioned in the show notes, Crutchley envisioned “medieval people on a fashion photoshoot in the style of Steven Meisel” when designing the collection. A reference point that is very much evident in the black and white prints of naked torsos featured heavily throughout the collection.

The angelic venue of St Cyprian’s Church at Clarence Gate provided the perfect backdrop to the collection. The stained glass windows were juxtaposed by the omission of colour. With tiered, floor-length gowns paired with heavy biker boots and chic co-ords accessorised with bunny and monkey shaped backpacks, this was a collection filled with contrasts.

Crutchley perfectly married tradition with contemporary and the result is a cohesive capsule that captures the past, present, and future.

RUE AGTHONIS

RUE AGTHONIS’ enchanting Spring/Summer 2024 Collection: “Time in a Bottle” showcased an exquisitely developed interplay of materials and patterns, including tweed, sequins, metallic threads, geometric shapes, and the designers’ own hand-painted artworks. Classic fabrics such as tweed and denim were married harmoniously in shades of pink, green, lilac, turquoise, and grey.

Designer Syl, drew on inspiration from influential figures such as Takashi Murakami, Stanley Whitney, Evie O’Connor, and Vanessa German. As well as visionary techniques pioneered by contemporary surrealist artists like Alexander Paulus and Issy Wood.

The setting of the Kimpton Fitzroy in the heart of London was the perfect setting for such a collection. The hotel stands as an elegant embodiment of timeless sophistication. Perfectly blending timeless and historical grandeur with contemporary luxury.

r.l.e

Titled MurMur, this collection from r.l.e “goes far beyond its literal meaning of whispering speech; it embraces those who express their inner beauty and creative mind amidst the intricate modern society, celebrating their modest yet unwavering presence.”

The brand’s primary inspiration comes from aquatic life, such as oversized fishtails and graceful pleated lines. The influence of nature can be seen throughout the collection. Soft, graceful silhouettes, earth-tone colour palettes, lilies, butterflies, and lycoris radiata are integrated dresses, maxi skirts, bodysuits, and accessories.

Noon by Noor

Founders and Designers Shaikha Noor Rashid Al Khalifa and Shaikha Haya Mohamed Al Khalifa of Noon By Noor presented their Spring Summer 2024 collection titled ‘Moonlit’ during London Fashion Week. Inspired by the duality of light and shade seen in the moon, the collection personifies the balance of contrasting elements.

Cape-like sleeves create an airy and voluminous effect, with low cuts and narrow cuffs. Square-cut shirts, some cropped, and others transformed into bibs or featuring buttoned hems, add volume and versatility. Utilitarian cargo pockets make a stylish appearance on chinos, shorts, and cotton dresses tied at the back. While jackets showcase clean lines and simplicity without linings, facings, or canvas.

Noon By Noor’s Spring Summer 2024 collection is a testament to the brand’s vision of harmonious contrasts and adaptive creativity. With its captivating designs that embody versatility, the brand continues to inspire and celebrate the unique spirit of women.
