It has been a busy month of Cruise 2024 shows. Here are the highlights from the Chanel, Gucci, Dior, and Louis Vuitton cruise collections…
Chanel
For the brand’s Cruise 2024 show, Chanel paid homage to the long history between the luxury French label and the City of Angels by showcasing the latest collection at Paramount Studios. The location gave a nod to Karl Lagerfeld’s fondness for dramatic sets as the movie set lot was transformed into a roller rink branded with the Chanel logo. No Hollywood show would be complete without a bevy of A-listers including Margot Robbie, Kristen Stewart, and Margaret Qualley who all attended the show.
The show proved that Barbiecore isn’t going anywhere. Skin-tight swimsuits styled with jewellery, leg warmers, and trainers would have made 80s Barbie very proud. The classic Chanel tweed was also given a Barbie makeover in pastel hues and let’s not forget the pink power suits and ombré metallic dresses.

Gucci
Gucci’s show took place in the stunning 14th Century Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul, South Korea. The Italian fashion house even flew in A-listers and brand muses including Dakota Johnson, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Elizabeth Olsen for the occasion.
“From fashion and beauty to music and art, the worldwide impact of contemporary South Korean culture is a shining example of the global connectivity that drives Gucci every day,” the house said on why the collection was hosted in this location. “The collection pays homage to this impact, and on a broader scale, to the way our wardrobes interact across continents today.”
The collection was influenced by Korean street style and combined both contemporary and traditional South Korean dress. Bomber jackets and cargo pants were seen throughout and there was a clear nod to skatewear in the standout piece of the collection: a Gucci skateboard with a logoed laptop pouch between the wheels.

Dior
Dior chose Mexico City to host their latest Cruise 2024 show. There is a rich history between Dior and Mexico. One of Christian Dior’s first dresses was named ‘Mexico’, followed by ‘Acapulco’, ‘Soirée à Mexico’, and ‘Mexique,’ a tulle dress embroidered with golden scales, for autumn-winter 1951.
This season now-Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri chose to once again honour Mexican artisanal practices, including the artistry of Frida Kahlo. “’Everybody looks at the iconography of her artwork in a superficial way, but her life is incredible because she explored the relationship between her body and her clothes. She was so conscious of that” said Maria Grazia Chiuri on her inspiration from Friday Kahlo.
A translucent dress, similar to one worn by Frida Kahlo in a self-portrait featured in the collection. Other standout pieces include lace tops in neutral tones, butterfly motifs, and full skirts in burnt orange and fuchsia.

Louis Vuitton
This cruise season, Louis Vuitton staged their very first show in Italy. The show had been set to take place outside on Isola Bella, an island in the middle of Lake Maggiore. Unfortunately, bad weather forced the show to relocate inside. Thankfully, the models had previously walked the original location so the collection was photographed as intended as it was a clear inspiration for a lot of the pieces.
Featuring mermaid core dresses and sculpted sleeves in aquatic colours, Louis Vuitton’s Creative Director Nicolas Ghesquière looked to water for the inspiration behind this collection. There were neoprene-a-plenty and mystical headdresses with a sci-fi twist. Ghesquière hoped to: ‘give rise to contemporary tales, populated by drifting creatures that abandon aquatic dwellings for the discovery of terrestrial wonders.’
