Kate Moss, the iconic supermodel, is celebrating her 50th birthday on 16th January 2024. To mark her milestone birthday, I’ve looked back at some of her most memorable and certainly iconic moments from her legendary fashion career.
The Face magazine cover
In 1990 14-year-old Kate Moss was spotted by Storm model agency founder Sarah Doukas at JFK airport. Two years later she was photographed by Corinne Day for the Face magazine which would go on to launch her career.
Calvin Klein campaign
Kate was only 17 when she posed alongside Mark Wahlberg in a campaign for Calvin Klein. It’s hard to believe that these were considered controversial images at the time.
Ruling the runway

Kate has walked for countless runway shows over the years. Having worked with all the major brands including Chanel, Versace, Alexander McQueen, Prada, YSL, Vivienne Westwood, and Gucci to name but a few.
Being the ultimate IT-girl of the 90s

The 90s was the decade of the supermodels and no one embodies that aesthetic quite like Kate Moss. What she offered was a striking alternative to the glamazons that dominated the runways during this time. She proved herself to be a fashion chameleon – the definition of a girl who can do both. Kate could switch it up from biker chick to old Hollywood glamour and let’s not forget that she was one of the first to pioneer the ‘quiet luxury’ trend.
Glastonbury 2005
Did Kate Moss single-handedly invest festival fashion? She certainly was a frontier in pioneering the Hunter wellies trend. Pairing her boots with hot pants is still a look that is widely copied each year at festivals all over the world.
Smoking on the catwalk
Closing Louis Vuitton’s fetish-themed AW11 Paris show by walking the runway smoking a cigarette in light of France’s smoking ban, shows that Kate has never been afraid to bend the rules.
Faking her own death in the Absolutely Fabulous Movie
If there is one thing I remember from the Ab Fab movie it’s that Kate Moss faked her own death, and looked absolutely fabulous (sorry) whilst doing it. Seeing Moss stagger out of the River Thames cigarette and champagne in hand is nothing short of iconic.
Throwing the best birthday parties
I am by no means a party girl, but even I want to party with Kate Moss. Her birthday parties are legendary. There was her Beautiful and the Damned themed 30th, with a star-studded guest list of Naomi Campbell, Stella McCartney, and the late Alexander McQueen. The four-day longer bender for her 35th and one of the most infamous parties of all time. Her 21st was held at notorious LA night-spot the Viper Rooms which was organised by then boyfriend Johnny Depp. I can’t wait to see what she has planned for her 50th!
