The countdown is on to fashion’s biggest night out. Here is everything you need to know about the Met Gala 2023…

What is the Met Gala?

The Met Gala (formally known as the Costume Institute Gala) is a fundraiser dedicated to the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Organised by Anna Wintour since 1995, the event is a much-loved celebration of fashion and is timed to mark the opening of its annual fashion exhibition.

Each year the exhibition has a theme that sets the tone for the event and dictates how guests must dress.

When is the Met Gala?

This year’s Met Gala will be held on the 1st of May 2023. The event has famously taken place on the first Monday in May every year since 2005. With the exception of 2020 when it was cancelled and in 2021 when the event was postponed until September due to the pandemic.

What is the theme for the Met Gala 2023?

The theme of the Met Gala 2023 is Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, as a tribute to the late designer who died in 2019. The dress code is “in honour of Karl”, with guests likely to choose looks from the designer’s extensive archives at Chanel, Fendi and his own label.

Who is invited?

This year we can also expect to see many of Karl’s muses including Kiera Knightley and Cara Delevigne.

To everyone’s surprise, there were reports that the Kardashian/Jenner clan were off the guestlist for this year, but this claim has since been refuted.
