Pharrell Williams Is Named Creative Director of Louis Vuitton Menswear

American music producer, Pharrell Williams has been named the next designer of Louis Vuitton menswear. This role was previously held by Virgil Abloh, who passed away in November 2021.

The appointment of Pharrell has left many doubting whether this was the right choice for the luxury fashion house and why British designer Martine Rose was not picked instead. I am usually sceptical myself when it comes to celebrity creative directors, however this is one I can definitely get behind.

Firstly, as well as being a Grammy-award-winning musician, producer and beauty entrepreneur, Pharrell’s style influence cannot be argued. He is a regular on the front row at fashion weeks and is co-owner of streetwear labels Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream footwear, alongside Kenzo’s creative director, Nigo.

Not to mention his longstanding partnership with Adidas Originals or the fact he has designed collections for Chanel and Tiffany. He has also previously collaborated with Louis Vuitton on a line of sunglasses – all proving he has extensive experience in the fashion sector.

“I am glad to welcome Pharrell back home, after our collaborations in 2004 and 2008 for Louis Vuitton, as our new Men’s Creative Director. His creative vision beyond fashion will undoubtedly lead Louis Vuitton towards a new and very exciting chapter.”

Pharrell’s debut collection will be unveiled in Paris in June 2023.
