The 90s It-Girls Inspiring My Summer Outfits

When deciding what to wear, sometimes the best sources of inspiration come from the past. After all, fashion trends come back around and then there are always those styles that are timeless for a reason. So, while planning my summer 2025 outfits I thought where best to look then one of the best decades for fashion; the 90s.

Every decade of course has its defining aesthetic and girls of the moment that have put their own stamp on the fashion hall of fame. From Marilyn Monroe in the 50s to Bianca Jagger in the 70s. But it was the 1990s where it-girl style truly started. We had supermodels, pop stars, actresses, and royalty all providing us with an endless stream of style inspiration.

From Cindy Crawford and Kate Moss to Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Aniston, here are the 90s it-girls who are inspiring my summer 2025 wardrobe…

Naomi Campbell

Nothing screams summer vacation quite like a colourful sequin mini dress and you best believe I will be wearing plenty of them this year.

Pamela Anderson

It’s pretty hard to picture 90s fashion without thinking of Pamela Anderson. Her bombshell style practically made her the poster girl for the decade. This crochet look in particular is a favourite of mine and one I shall definitely be replicating this summer.

Cindy Crawford

For a casual summer outfit, you really cannot beat a pair of classic denim shorts and a basic tee. Cindy was a big fan of the look in the 90s and for good reason – it’s a staple.

Jennifer Aniston

Let’s face it, a little black dress is befitting all year round. But there is something about an LBD in the summer months that looks oh so chic, as proven here by Jennifer Aniston. This may be a 90s trend, but this style will forever be timeless.

Kate Moss

From little black dresses to the staple slip dress. Kate Moss was a big fan of this style back in the 90s and it seems that her love has never faded as she is still seen in variations of this wardrobe staple today.

Sarah Jessica Parker

Leave it to SJP to provide the sartorial inspiration. Her lust-worthy looks are endless but this one just screams 90s to me – the minimalism, the laid-back aesthetic, and the tailored micro shorts and corset combo.

Victoria Beckham

If there is one thing I am obsessed with buying for summer 2025 it is embellished tops. I simply cannot get enough and neither could Victoria Beckham back in the 90s. Metallic or sequin variations in particular are a must and pair so nicely with mini skirts or jeans.

Brittany Murphy

Talking of miniskirts, another 90s trend I will continue to love this summer is largely influenced by Brittany Murphy’s style. The actress wore a lot of the mini skirt outfits back in the 90s and early 2000s with many of her looks still on my moodboard today.

Iman

I admit that in the winter months, my wardrobe consists heavily of a neutral colour palette. But if there is ever a time that I want to embrace colour it’s in summer. And if I could go back to 1996 and steal this dress from Iman, I absolutely would. Unfortunately, I can’t, but at least there are plenty of modern alternatives to choose from.

Princess Diana

And finally, I couldn’t very well talk about the 90s it-girls without mentioning Princess Diana. She is the blueprint for ‘a girl that can do both’. And while her royal glam leaves much to be admired, it’s her off-duty, casual looks that usually consisted of an oversized sweatshirt, cycling shorts, and trainers that has made its way into my wardrobe.
