The annual Cannes Film Festival is first and foremost a movie industry event, where films of all genres are promoted to an international audience. But outside of the theatre the star-studded Cannes red carpet is full of head-turning looks that can often gain more attention than the movie itself.
This year, noteworthy films include Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth; The Apprentice, a film about America’s most disgraced president starring Sebastian Stan, and Yorgos Lanthimos’ new movie Kinds of Kindness. Yet before the screenings, comes the red carpet which welcomes the worlds top actors, models, and celebrity personalities.
So far this year, descending on the French Riviera has been Naomi Campbell in Chanel, Meryl Streep in Dior, Bella Hadid in Saint Laurent, Michelle Yeoh in Bottega Veneta, and Emma Stone in Louis Vuitton – to name just a few.
The festival may be to celebrate the film industry, but as always the red carpet is a celebration of fashion.
