The latest collection by Italian fashion house, Versace, was unveiled yesterday in Cannes, France. Donatella Versace collaborated and co-designed the Cruise 2023 collection with pop icon Dua Lipa, marking the singers’ design debut.
Dua has been a loyal friend of the brand for years, having worn many of the house’s pieces throughout her career, both on the red carpet and on stage. Dua also opened and closed Versace’s SS22 show in Milan. So, it’s unsurprising that if Donatella Versace is going to co-design with anyone, Dua Lipa would be a fitting choice.
The collection titled ‘La Vacanza’, or ‘The Vacation’ in Italian, presented a full offering of elegant holiday pieces. From tailoring and evening gowns to terry cotton beachwear and metallic handbags. It was truly a celebration of summer and possibly my personal favourite runway collection that I’ve seen for a while.

It was reminiscent of the golden age of runway shows – the 1990s supermodel era. Many of the pieces were inspired by Versace’s 1995 collection including metallic mini skirts and bikinis and the iconic butterfly motifs.
A shimmering turquoise one-shoulder dress was undoubtedly a standout piece from the collection. This stunning ombre-effect dress took inspiration from Versace’s metal mesh, but in a way that is more accessible to a younger consumer.
Other pieces to look out for include an array of pastel-hued buckled bralettes inspired by Versace’s autumn/winter 1992 collection, Barbie-core pink tailoring and polka-dot swimsuits.
