The 2000s often get a bad reputation for being one of the worst decades in fashion. However, with the Y2K style having a major comeback over the past few years, it could be argued that this is simply not true. Whilst wearing skirts over jeans should never have been a thing (we’re looking at you Ashley Tisdale), there were actually some decent trends to come out of this decade.
Double denim, juicy tracksuits, and low-rise waists all stand up today as top-notch fashion choices, but they first became popular in the 2000s. Most of the credit can go to the ‘IT’ girls of the time who highly influenced and pioneered a lot of these trends.

It’s impossible to think of the 2000s without thinking of Paris Hilton. She, along with her style, practically defined the decade. From her iconic 21st birthday dress, slogan t-shirts, and of course, the velour juicy tracksuits her style was quintessential Y2k.
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen
Even before the sisters founded The Row, they were style icons. They brought a minimalistic approach to the decade, often wearing basic tanks or halter tops with low-rise trousers and midi skirts. With the rise in the quiet luxury trend, this look would not go amiss today.

If you’re looking for 2000s-style inspiration who better to turn to than the pop princess herself, Britney Spears? Crop tops paired with low-rise trousers were a staple Britney look. Let’s not forget her infamous double denim outfit with then-boyfriend Justin Timberlake.

One of the biggest trends to come out of the 2000s was the exposed midriff, and no one did this quite as well as Beyoncé. She also pioneered athleisure and printed bandanas – worn around her head or as a top.

Not only did Christina bless us with some of the 2000s most beloved and iconic songs, but she can also be credited with some of Y2K’s most memorable looks. From the tiniest micro skirts and bedazzled body art to leather chaps and corset tops.

Just like Paris, it is hard to think of the 2000s without thinking of Lindsay. However, unlike her noughties counterpart, Lindsay is often overshadowed in the fashion icon department. As a fan of figure-hugging silhouettes and mini dresses, as many still are today, Lindsay’s style deserves to be celebrated.
