New York Fashion Week is back for another season, and as always, the Khaite FW25 show did not disappoint. Designer Catherine Holstein presented a collection of sleek, minimalist designs and unexpected bursts of colour.
The Location
The show took place at at the Park Avenue Armory in Manhattan, New York. The runway was a raised circular platform that glowed with a yellow-orange light. Reminiscent of the yellow brick road and created in memorium to filmmaker David Lynch who once said “There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think about ‘The Wizard of Oz.’”
The Inspiration
For fall/winter 2024, Cate Holstein looked to the 1947 Humphrey Bogart/Barbara Stanwyck film, ‘The Two Mrs. Carolls,’ for inspiration. A movie that sparked a thought of historical shifts in clothing – from corsets to wartime utility.
The Collection
Sculptural corsets made their way into the Khaite FW25 collection, though with a more relaxed fit compared to the tightly-cinched silhouettes we are so used to. The 1940’s influence of The Two Mrs. Carolls was also evident in the form of structured shoulders, leopard print, and slimline shapes.

There were draped dresses worn with leather opera gloves, knitted midi skirts contrasted with sheer shirts, and a selection of beautifully constructed maxi coats.

The colour palette of the collection was largely muted in black, beige, and brown, yet with a welcome colour pop of oxblood.

The Hero Looks
The coats! From cropped fur jackets to a black leather trench, Khaite FW25 was all about the coats.
