For Resort 2026, Max Mara showcased its latest collection at La Reggia di Caserta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Europe’s most beautiful palaces. Located outside of Naples, the palace boasts magnificent architecture and grand gardens, so it’s hardly a surprise it was chosen as the backdrop for the collection.
A collection inspired by Italian cinema, that is. Creative Director Ian Griffiths drew inspiration largely from the 1949 film Riso Amaro, starring Silvana Mangano. Paying homage to the Italian ideal of “bella figura,” which literally translates to “to make a beautiful figure.” And if there is one thing we can count on Max Mara for, it’s just that.
As always with Max Mara, most of the collection goes straight to the top of my wishlist. This time was no different. There were even several trends I noticed throughout that I predict will become huge next resort season.
Read on for seven trends from the Max Mara Resort 2026 collection you should definitely consider investing in…
Pinstripes

While typically associated with men’s tailoring, pinstripes were seen throughout the collection on shorts, blazers, trousers, and shirts. The print felt soft and seductive, evoking the essence of Southern Italy. In Max Mara’s hands, gone are the connections of the strict boardroom attire, but instead, a relaxed elegance emerges, imbued with a cinematic charm.
Loafers

The standout shoe from the Max Mara Resort 2026 collection was by far the humble loafer, appearing in over 90% of looks! Loafers bring a grounded, effortless elegance to a resort wardrobe and pair perfectly with the rest of the collection’s sharp tailoring and breezy separates.
Midi skirts

Midi skirts played a starring role in the collection, bridging the gap between vintage glamour and contemporary wearability. Styled with timeless shirting, knits, and matching bralettes, giving them a dynamic role in both daytime and evening ensembles.
Bags

Many of the looks were finished with new iterations of the iconic Whitney bag. Likely in celebration of the bag’s 10th anniversary this year. The Whitney was shown in a variety of sizes, styles, and colours – the raffia variation being my favourite. Yet, each one is perfect for any occasion, whether the beach or the bar.
Tailored shorts

The looks featuring tailored shorts were some of my favourite from the entire resort collection. They were polished, refined, and understated. Precisely everything we know and love from Max Mara. The collection shows tailored shorts in all their versatility. From pairings with an unbuttoned shirt and loafers for a summer stroll around the South of France to a look styled with a patterned knit and knee highs which would not go amiss come Autumn.
Bardot neckline

One of my key takeaways while watching the Max Mara Resort 2026 show was the sheer volume of bardot or off-the-shoulder necklines – appearing in 25% of looks. It is a welcome change to the plunging necklines we have seen a lot of recently.
Dresses with pockets

Rejoice! Max Mara has heard our prayers and given us dresses with pockets – because seriously, why is this not more common? The strapless gowns in particular are exquisite. Dripping in crystals and featuring silk gauze.
