The Ski Outfits Everyone Wants to Wear This Winter

The ski season is well and truly underway, and there’s no time like the present to start planning your ski outfits. Because if you’re going to be cold, you may as well look good doing it. Skiwear is a sartorial sub-genre that, despite not being marketed towards everyone, continues to inspire year after year, and for good reason. From playful prints and practical materials to the glitz and glamour of après-ski wear, ski fashion taps into a fantasy many of us want to be part of.

I, for one, have never been skiing, and I don’t have a burning desire to strap on a pair of skis and hurtle down a mountain any time soon. The fashion, however, is something I can very much get on board with. I’d happily book a chalet in Val d’Isère or Aspen if it meant I got to dress the part. And thanks to good old Instagram I already have an idea of what I would wear if I ever did book my fantasy trip.

For those of you whose upcoming ski trip is more of a reality, below I share five ski outfits, and five après-ski outfits, that I wish I was recreating this year.

On The Slopes

When it comes to what to wear when skiing, safety should always come first. Investing in jackets and salopettes made from high-quality, waterproof and breathable fabrics is number one on the checklist. Once that box is ticked, you can have fun with outfit planning. Bright, bold colours — especially pinks and blues — are always a winner, as are heritage prints like chevron and houndstooth. These details not only make an outfit stand out on the slopes, but also feel perfectly in keeping with the elevated ski aesthetic.

Apres-Ski

When it comes to après-ski, fur coats are your best friend. As are moonboots, cosy knits, and a glass of wine (or two). The best looks balance comfort, warmth and a style that is quintessentially winter. There’s only so many climates where you can take full advantage of dressing like you just stepped out of a Slim Aarons photograph in Gstaad – so lean into it!  It is also the perfect time to channel the mob wife aesthetic. As mentioned, fur coats are a must, but adding animal print and a pair of oversized sunglasses would complete the look.
