The Best 2000s Trends to Wear Again in 2026

2000s trends

The noughties are not exactly known for being the best years for fashion. And while some trends are better left in the 2000s (hello dresses over jeans) there are also some iconic pieces and micro-moments from 2000s fashion that would not look out of place in 2026.

From ballet flats and shoulder bags to capri pants and graphic tees, here are the 2000s fashion trends you should be recreating this year.

Miniskirts and Micro Shorts

Nothing screams the early 2000s more than the iconic miniskirt or micro short. It is what all the IT girls of the decade’s chick flicks were wearing and while midi lengths have been having a moment in recent years, mini and micro cuts are back. They’re playful, nostalgic, and undeniably part of the 2000s style revival.

Shoulder Bags

Before the age of crossbodies and totes, shoulder bags were the go-to accessory. Carrie Bradshaw was a fan, with the classic Fendi baguette bag part of her signature style. And if it’s good enough for Carrie then it’s good enough for us. From sleek, structured designs to slouchy hobo styles, these bags are one of the more wearable 2000s fashion trends that can be worn today.

Slogan Tees

We’ve all see the pictures from the early 2000s of Paris Hilton sporting another slogan tee from her collection – “too pretty for a job” and “that’s hot” being two of my favourites. Well great news because whether they bare a catchy slogan, band logo, or a snarky comment, slogan tees are back. They were and are a fun and expressive way to showcase your personality and interests, or simply make a statement.

Oversized Belts

In the noughties, belts were worn whether they were necessary or not. Worn to accessorise an outfit rather than for functionality. They were bold, sometimes bedazzled, and usually always oversized. As far as 2000s fashion goes, this was peak maximalism, and it’s a trend that feels surprisingly fresh again.

Ballet Flats

The return of the ballet flat was one 2000s fashion trend that I was skeptical about at first, but they have quickly become one of my most worn pieces this past few summers. For 2026 however, they have been given a makeover, with more interesting design details such as pointed toes, slingbacks, and embellished details that elevate this early-2000s staple.

Capri Pants

This is one you’ll either love or hate, but if this past summer is anything to go by, capri pants are here to stay! Thankfully, as a society, we have evolved from accepting capris as worthy red-carpet attire, but they do offer a chic alternative to full-length trousers for street style.

Halter Tops

Whether in sleek satin, ribbed knit, or daring cutouts, halter tops are always a flattering choice. They work beautifully for evening wear, beach days, festivals, and everything in between. Their silhouette feels timeless yet distinctly Y2K, making them one of the most versatile 2000s trends worth reviving.
